New Wilmington Lawrence Co. Pa. Oct. 17th. 68. Dear Mother, I received your long good kind letter day before yesterday which contained wlcome news from home as well as new from John. How lonely he must be in the cold winter weather with nothing to cheer him but duty and no communication with friends except by letter. I suppose you write to him often you and Mamie must write to him in preference to me when you have only time for one letter for he needs letters more than I do.
