John was well, he said he had written a letter that day or before to Mother so I suppose you are informed about matters of interest and it would be stale if I should rewrite them to you. There is one thing however which I will write to yourself and to Mother in Mother's letter which I think should be duly considered and concerns us all. This will be seen to be a trophy of John's thoughts - fulness kindness and manliness. I will send you and Mother one of my photographs thay say thay will almost speak one thing is shure thay dont. What an awful shame it was that Mr. Wilkes was in Ashtabula, when you called at his shop. I suppose he went to enter his black, and now he will be eather elated with success or discouraged by defeat and it will [unsafe?] for your shadows
