February, THURSDAY 18, 1864 On fatigue down in the Ferry. sent back on account of the severity of the weather But 4 men on [dutey?] around camp FRIDAY 19. On patroll down in The Ferry, (Post at the R.R. Bridge over the Potomac R.R. Quarters in the engine house where John Brown was taken prisoner.) Weather very cold. (A fight took place near Upper-ville. The Union forces engaged were the N York Calvary and Maj Coles. On Capt killed. 16 prisoners taken.) SATURDAY 20. Came off Patroll. Co drill in AM. Weather more pleasant but cold. 16 prisoners brought into the Ferry.
