March, THURSDAY 31, 1864 A prayer meeting in the Chappel tent. servises conducted by a friend of Mr Loomis's. April, FRIDAY 1. On Provost guard in Martinsburg. post in front of Col Well's headquarters. Commensed raining about M. The 34th got marching orders. the guard releived and sent to their quarters to get in readiness to march. SATURDAY 2. Left our camp at Martinsburg about 7 o'clock this AM in the rain. A short tim[e] after we left it com[mensed] snowing and continue[d] to do so until M. Roa[d] very bad. Camped in the woods at Halltown at night.
