a good many places where there was nobody at home but the women and children ask the children where their father is and they say that he is in prices army. all we lacked of getting into a fight at Springfield was that Price wouldn't wait to see it. we marched thirty miles aday the two last days to get there in time but Price was about as fast we was. our new recruits came to us when we were at Springfield they are able for their rations. the eighth regiment is in the same brigade that we are. old man Catern stood the trip about as well as the best of us Kelsey is Captain of that Company now our Captain is in St Louis sick he has the typhoid fever I believe I expect we will all go to St Louis in a few days.
