but I dont know that we have done any more this winter than last summer. but I expect the same thing that is causing so much delay will bring the war to aclose in the course of time. as long as the money lasts and is plenty the war will be protracted but I am afraid if they dont arrainge things a ittle diferent we will run out of means after while. I am thinking they will have to carry on government affairs in a little more uniform manner or we will make afailure of it yet. they seem to distribute the money to those that are concerned in the war by random without regard to right or anything else I cant help but think that way every time I see our old preacher steping around his pay is about one hundred and fifty dollars amonth and he preaches us a sermon on an average of about once amonth making a hundred and fifty dollars for each sermon that he preaches. and each sermon causes him about as much labor as two hours standing guard after night would. The Commissioned officers of a Company gets from eight to ten times as much as aprivate and have about one fourth as much to do. I dont complain of the pay of the privates but it is the pay of the officers. the privates gets pay enough, in fact more than they earn it comes as near getting pay for nothing as aperson could wish that is the way that I look at it but as well as I like soldiering I would be willing
