time to my notion. Grant is not with us. I dont think our loss will be as heavy this time as it was at the Pittsburg battle. we are just creeping on to them by inches our Column [I?] support is not less than eight miles long we dont move more than two or three miles at once. then fortify the whole length of the line which is not much trouble in this heavy timbered Country there is a heavy picket kept out all the time and we have scouting parties out every day. so much precaution may prevent abattle here altogether. there is a report that they are fixing to evacuate Corinth but I dont believe it. I believe there will be a heavy battle fought here or close here and that too before long. skirmishing is an every day occurence among the scouts and has been ever since we left our old Camp but they are more frequent and last longer than they did at first and they are getting closer to us that is closer to our division  we are in Shermans division and on the extreme right of the column I thought yesterday
