as much as could be that we would be fighting today we may yet as it is only about eight o clock now but I thought we would be at it by day light this morning the rebels seemed to be feeling around yesterday after noon to see where our lines were they had aright smart skirmish with our pickets which are about two miles out from Camp I have not heard all the particulars about it but I guess it didnt amount to much. day before yesterday there was heavy cannonadeing off toward our left wing I have not heard the result the day before that they had askirmish about three miles from here I was out pretty near to that helping to cut out aroad I saw five prisoners our men took they were stout hearty looking men they said they had heard nothing of the talk about their evacuating Corinth they said the Country was full of their troops from Corinth for five miles out this way we are about eight miles north of Corinth. we have got our breast works done and roads cut out so I suppose that
