we just got back yesterday from a tour of about eight or ten days we were down to Holly Springs a town about twenty miles south of here. on the Mississippi Central R R it is the prettiest town I have seen either in Tenn or Mississipi. but like the City of Sodom if two Union people would save the town I think it would go up unless they went somewhere else to find them. we are not down there to break up anest of armed rebels Jackson's Cavalry and some others that staid there but there was too many of us went (our division and Hurlberts) none but the advance got to see them afew rounds from our cannon put them to flight we followed them apeice. but as they were mostly Cavalry and we mostly infantry it didnt amount to much. we staid around there several days but they showed no signs of returning
