we heard from Jack Lee yesterday he has been aprisoner ever since the battle of Shiloh but was paroled afew days ago and is now on his way home you said things looked gloomy up in our part of the Country that commerce and trade generaly was dull and the people not much better. but I assure you it is far worse down in this Country you may feel thankful that you dont live in apart of the Country where two armies are not passing through. Just think of the condition of such people. before we came the rebels had possession of all the trading posts and used them for the benefit of their soldiers without looking much to the comfort of the citizens. and since we come it is worse if anything their merchants have no chance or at least avery poor one. transportion north is in our hands and I might say south too. the people have to depend altogether on what they raise
