not be afected for better or worse. if friends parents and good society ever done anything for them at home. its nothing to them now since they are so far away from all. it dont do for aperson to be odd here at least that seems to be the general impression although I make it my special business to be alittle odd it looks as though this generation was about gone up (spoiled before they are killed.). but enough of that for the present. our Regt has been patroling the City of Memphis for aweek or so we returned to camp day before yesterday. we had agood time we were quartererd in houses each Company by itself in diferent parts of the city. our business was to arrest all soldiers and officers in town without apass and to keep things quiet generaly. of course we got pretty well acquainted with the city of Memphis as we were allowed to go where we pleased. I saw agoodmany men that fought agaist we at Shiloh and Corinth the most of them had been disabled there some were deserteds. those that were wounded seemed to think that after the war was all over things settled that our government would give them pensions or provide some way for them to make aliving (how they will be fooled)
