alittle but nothing more. they returned to Camp and reported to head Qrs our Colonel then took three Companies ours and two others.in the dead of night marched out there got Noah's body burned the houses and returned to Camp without seeing a white man except ourselves. if we could have found Mr Smith I expect he would have been very apt to hung but he was sharp enough to Clear out he went to general Hamilton where it seems he had taken the oath afew days ago and got papers of protection & by going to the general and representing his Case by telling that the soldiers were breaking into the house after night & robing him & he would get Clear without having to leave the Country I dont know how he will succeed but I expect it was the safest thing he could have done because our generals are all down on soldiers going into houses that always has been positively against orders. the boys that were out that night were fined one months pay each for being so far from Camp on their own hook and thats whats the matter with our Colonel it seems that he took the three Companies out that night on his own responsability the Gen thinking it not safe to go out there before daylight as he rather thought it was the advance of aheavy force that our boys got into but that didnt make any difference with the Colonel he was determined to go for he thought considerable of Noah he was Chief bugler and we could hardly get along without him. But I rather think the trouble will blow over without us losing our Colonel I hope so at any rate.. Well I am getting very tired of writing as I expect you can plainly see by the writing my pen is avery poor one and I have been writing agood bit I expect your patience will be worn out before you get the letter half read. Write as soon as you Can Conveneiantly I am looking for an answer already Oliver Boardman I will send you a genuine Confederate postage Stamp you can see the sticking plaster on the back of them is nothing but apeace of wafer
