that night six Companies of us under Command of Maj Miller went to Capture them. it was avery dark night but it didnt rain any it had been raining so much before that I guess there was no more to Come down we lost our way in going out and didnt get there till two OClock - and the bird had flown - it seems that they had got wind of us alittle too soon they had been gone about an hour and a half when we got there so we had to go back to Camp without them. but apretty set we were we had marched all night in the dark and through the mud we got into.Camp about seven in the morning as muddy and wet as drowned rats we had passed through some little mud holes and Swamps about amile long. and agreat many big ones. there was one small branch that will not be forgotten soon. by fording it it was only about knee deep but just below the ford there was asmall pole across that would have done very well to cross on in the day time and the boys thought it was better
