and it seemes just in time to escape them one company from our Regt stays there now every night They go out after night and come in before daylight They think perhaps Street will try it over again some of these nights but if they do they will be picked up We are putting up some heavy fortifications here but it is not very large it is only large enoug for about what soldiers there is here. it is a good situation for a fort the ground is high with a good view of the country on every side there is one side that the enemy would only have to cross an opening of about a half a mile to get into the fort but on most every other side the view is good for at least two miles. The Fort is built in the shape of a star it points eight different directions on the inside of each point or pannel there is a place fixed for a cannon. The Fort was first called Fort Muligan then afterwards Fort Star but now I believe it is called Fort McDowal. it is not quite finished but will be in a few days if the
