officers. but we brought back at least a hundred mules and horses to the Regt We passed through a splendid country the best I ever saw in the south, rich old planters with large plantations. and large houses fixed up in style. and door yards to correspond but thats about all they can count on after the yankees passes along a few times. About everything is confiscated now days but real estate. After getting back from our scout we had marching orders but it was only to move to Lagrange where we are at present. We had hardly got our camp fixed up here till we had orders to be ready for another scout but not exactly as Infantry. we drew mules and saddles and went with the 2nd Iowa 4th Ill and part of the 2nd Tenn Cavalry, all under the command of Col Hatch of the 2nd Iowa This Cavalry was out on the other scout but in a different direction. They were down below Okolona almost to Columbia on the Mobile and Ohio R. Road. The 6th and 7th Ill
