Cavalry went with them to Okolona then struck off towards Jackson Miss and that was the last that was heard of them till went on the second scout. I think the object of our second scout was to see if we could hear from them and to watch the move of the enemy. When we got down there we found the citizens knew all about them. They told us that they had gone through to Baton Rouge. we afterwards saw the Jackson Miss Appeal It gave the full particulars stating that as they passed through they tore up several miles of trussel work on the Jackson and Vicksburg R. R. (east of Jackson) If they have gone through and arrived safely at Baton Rouge it is certainly the boldest move I ever heard of, though I think it was done through a mistake I think they ventured down so far that they could not get back and had to bulge on through. it is always easier geting down into the Confederacy on such expeditions than getting back We were gone seven days on the last scout
