The Gen told us we would either take breakfast with them or they would with us. the fires were all put out as soon as supper was over. at 2 oclock in the morning we were called up with orders to move on no one allowed to speak above a whisper We marched to the cross roads where we expected to meet opposition, but found no one there what few had camped there during the night had evacuated going north and south. after breakfast we moved north west. Marched about 22 miles passed over some of the prettiest country I ever saw in the south. Took afew prisoners. Horses, mules, and provisions. Rained part of the day past asmall town called Senatobia in the evening. Camped on the hill near Coldwater. 6th Iowa on picket during night. April 22nd Moved at 6 A.M. Marched to Coldwater Station where we captured arebel flag in avacant house where they had had their headquarters afew days before. We turned east. Marched east and north 20 miles
