April 23rd Revelle 4 A.M. Marched almost north Co E in charge of the prisoners about 12 in number taken at different places along the road since first days march. Crossed Coldwater about one oclock. Took dinner and rested till after three. We turned our prisoners over to the other Regts as they were going to Collierville the nearest point to the Memphis and Charleston Rail Road. The 6th Iowa then turned east taking the road running to Mt Plesant then north to Moscow. We marched about five miles. Camped in arich old planters dooryard. Making in all that day over 20 miles. We lost one man that day from Co. D. of our Regt. he had got back to far and was picked up by the rebel cavalry that were continualy hanging around us we could see them every day watching around in little squads and occasionaly they would make adash at our front or rear guards but would never stay
