Had heard nothing of the Lieut of Co H or his Squad May 21st left Camp for another scout in Company with 2nd Iowa and remainder of 6th and 7th Ill Cav. two 6 Pounders and three 2 pounders. Col Hatch in Command. Traveled 35 miles via Mt Pleasant and Byhalia. Joined [with?] the 3rd 4th and 9th Ill Cav. with two peices 12 Pound Howitzers at Byhalia where we Camped during night May 22nd Reveille 2 A.M. Left Camp at 5 Stoped at Looxhohoma from 9 till 12 while 3rd 4th and 9th Ill Cav sent forward to reconnoiter. They came across part of Gen Chalmers force near Senatoba attacked and defeated them killing 6 or 8 wounding 10 or 12 driving the remainder across the Tallehatchie at Panola. When we left Luxhoma we struck across to the Panola Road then north
