Grant is going to blow up. Their water batteries are all silenced. Today 7000 rebel prisoners went by us for the north on 5 steamboats, followed by a large gun boat. Some of our wounded were out on deck Some of them and, such Questions as the following were asked the rebels (who as they went by were only 50 feet off ) What do you think of the Southern Confederacy now? eh! Dont you want some Jackson tobacco? eh, Wouldn't you like some wheat bread? eh, and such like occasionally interspersed with oaths on both sides (specially the Secesh) And where's your hat? O, what breeches, How many lice you got aboard?" Rather a lively time. Well, this evening I recd your letter and one from Richard. Dick is a Sergt. is well but lonesome. Sorry your hopes were dashed by the money not being good. No matter Ill send you some that is, one of these days. As to the money all that I have sent you you have rec'd the 2 letters with 5.00 each, was before the 35.00 so it is all right. I sent 2.00 the last letter but one before this which you will no doubt get. No, Ill see that I dont eat too much for I dont want to break down
