Well the news is still good. Morgan Captured. his force destroyed, and down here the Rebs give it up that they have no show at all. while in the East things dont look bad. Still not quite so good as I could wish. I hear that you have had a time in DeWitt, that Buck has left. Sam Ely in jail and others with him etc, So [mote?] it be, with all d----d scoundrels and Copper headed traitors. Ill wait to finish & send this off till tomorrow morning & may be Ill have a letter, my own dear wife good bye for to-day on paper. Ill think of you often enough to satisfy you, if you were the veriest gourmand in the world.. Aug. 4--No Letter yet and I am disappointed
