of [Beves?]fore the night there is lots of canonading 3 miles from here we took a batery 28 ware ready to march as I write they are lots of fireing one the river at vicksburg we expect to be engaged every hour for our pickets are in sight of each other & Cam 12 O clock the fight is rageing & men from the right of our brigade just brought in wounded.
