we are going into camp and they are going to abandon the atack from this point for I think it is imposible to take it this way without some heavy guns to silence their bateries we lost about 800 men 3 wee have not received any mail yet. have come into the missippa agai. the report is we are going into winter quarters (Upside-down, at bottom of page:-) MONDAY, December 24th, 1855.
