to canton they had some fighting at both places but drove the enemy destroyed all goverment property we had some killed and whounded at both places tore up the track and burned the bridges and returned last night it is 10 miles to branden [&?] south and 20 miles to canton our sick are sent on to day to ards Vicksburg 21 we expect to start in the morning the whole army for Vicksburg for it is no use to folow them 22 we are under marching
