tide was higher by three feet than it has been since the fort was built 1846 March 1st The people of the county of York were astonished by ascertaining that some 30 or 35 whales had taken refuge in york river, thirty two of them were washed ashore varying in length from 15 [illegible] 20 feet about one mile from yorktown Col Joseph C [Scoto?] one of the [Cann?] volunteers from this place died 16th of March 1846 and was buried with military honours. 1846 Married the 10th March Col William [Simmons?] to Mary F Smith 1846 Price of Pork at the commencement of the year $6 - and fell to $5.00
