War declared between the United States and Mexico the 13th of May 1846 battle fought 28th April at Fort Taylor May 8 & 9t two battles fought between Genl Taylor and Arista between point Isabel and Fort Taylor May 17th 1846 Matamoras taken by the American army under Genl Taylor without firing a gun. The mexican army under Genl Ampudia having retreated numbering about six thousand 1846 Oct 19th General Taylor encamped before monteroy, and the Battle commenced on the 20th and continued three days which resulted in the loss of five hundred Americans in killed wounded and missing and the enemy lost and surrendered the city of monteroy the [cann?] fortifications the munitions of war and all other public property to the America
