Cabbage & Rice Cut up a large white cabbage place a layer of rice & a layer of cabbage according to the quantity wanted. Suppose half a pound of rice. Add about 1/2 pint of water & a little mace, a bit of butter the size of a walnut with pepper & salt, then let it simmer until done. To clean Carpets Take up the carpet. let it be well beaten, then brushed on both sides with a hand brush, turn it the right side upwards & scour it with ox gall (1 large or two small ones to a pail of hot water) & soak very clean, & dry it with linen cloths. Then lay it in the grass
