Common Plum Cake To half a quartern of dough, add 1/2 a lb butter, 1/8 lb of currants, 1/4 lb loaf sugar, & 4 eggs, beat the butter well into a cream, also beat the eggs separately then mix the butter & eggs together, then add the sugar, & by degrees work all these into the dough, & beat them to gether well. Add sweetmeats, almonds or lemon peel if approved.
