New Years Cake Seven Pounds of flour Sifted half a pound of butter half a pound of lard two pounds and a half of white Havannah sugar Sift the flour and roll with the sugar, rub in the butter and lard rubbing well with your hands. Add by degrees enough cold water to make it a stiff dough set it away for an hour or two then knead it again several times sprinkle your hands with flour. they require hard kneading some caraway seeds improve them
