A small Sponge Cakes 1 cup of sugar, 1 egg 1/2 cup of milk, 2 teaspoonsful cream tartar, one of soda, butter size of an egg - spice to taste Cookies - 1 cup butter, 2 cups sugar, 1 cup cold water 1/2 teaspoon of saleratus, 2 eggs- flour enough to roll and not more - Soft Gingerbread 1 cup molasses, 1 do sugar, 1 do butter 1 cup of butter milk, 1 egg - saleratus - cloves - mix rather stiff. - Marble Cake (For the white Cake) 1 cup butter, 3 cups white sugar, 5 cups flour even full- 1/2 cup of sweet milk - half a teas spoon of soda, the whites of 8 eggs - flavor with lemon (For the dark Marble portion) 1 cup of butter, 2 cups brown sugar 1 cup of Molasses, one do sour milk, 1 teaspoon full soda, 4 cups of flour yolks of eight eggs & one whole egg - spices of all kinds - Put into pans, first a layer of black, then white - and proceed on so, finishing with the layer of dark. - Bake in a hot oven Muffins HAE 1 pint sour milk - teaspoon of Soda, 1 egg flour enough to make a thick batter.
