Directions for Bureau Tidy - Commence with a chain of six stitches forming a circle, and widen until the circumference of the circle numbers 40 stitches - Then make 3 long stitches into one stitch of the circumference - 3 chain, & 3 more long stitches into the same stitch, then crochet 3 chain; repeat into every 4th stitch, until this circle is completed. Next draw the thread through to the space formed by the 3 chain between the 6 long stitches in the one stitch of the circumference. Make 10 long stitches in this space one short stitch in the next. 3 chain and repeat - This forms the first circle of shells - Next draw the thread through till it reaches the space between the fifth and 6th stitches of the first shell - Then make 9 chain - forcing to the middle of the second shell and repeat - This is the foundation of the circle of plain long shells. Then another circle of shells in every 4 stitch of the circle of plain long stitches. Next another circle of shells Then a plain circle - Then three circle of shells the first five stitches apart, that is, in every fifth stitch of the plain circle - Then another plain circle - Next 4 rows of shells and afterwards a plain circle - This completes
