Spice Cakes (McCafferty's) 1/2 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 2 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 level teaspoon salt 3/4 cup water yolks of 4 eggs or 2 whole eggs Cream fat & sugar thoroughly and add eggs. Sift together 3 times - flour - baking powder - spices - salt and add alternately with water. Raisins may be added if desired. Place in moderate oven and gradually increase the heat from 325° to 350° F. Bake 45 min.
