2nd Monday January 3rd 1876. We got up a little earlier this morning. After the breakfast work was done Mother went to town to get some things, She came home about noon and Em Moon was with her. Hattie and I had cleaned up our room, the parlor, both rooms up stairs, and baked and frosted two sponge cakes. While Mother and I got dinner Rob and Hatt put a new oil cloth on the stairs, After dinner we took the carpet out of the sitting room and cleaned the floor. By seven oclock we had things done up in good style and were dressed for our company. They began to arrive about eight oclock. The dancing began at nine, Mr Luse played for us, There was about fifty here and things passed of pleasantly enough If they all enjoyed themselves as well as I did they would have no cause to complain It was three oclock when the last of them got started home. We talked over the affair for a few moments and then took ourselves to bed. I had a letter from Des Moines tonight.
