3 Tuesday January 4th 1876 We got up at eight oclock, and how we did feel and how wretched things did look. We got our breakfast over and began cleaning up. By two oclock we had all done and dinner ready. Mother and Hattie went to town, Hattie intending to stay all night with Winnie. I began writing to Al in the afternoon but did not finish it till after night. Emma and I went to bed early. pleasant day. I had a letter from Maggie McKee. Wednesday January 5th 1876. I just fussed around at the house-work all the forenoon, and got the clothes sorted out ready to wash in the afternoon. Hattie and Em went to the valley this afternoon. I got the clothes all rubbed out ready to boil, and put them away intending to finish up tomorrow Mr Fry came back tonight. It was late when we got the supper work done up. I wrote Will Reed a long letter in the evening. Weather remarkably pleasant. Mothers birthday 50.
