Thursday, March 2, 1865. This morn' early crossed Red river in a skiff. Mr Thayer put the climax on his kindness by accompanying me to the Bluff. Our talk by the way interesting and profitable. Steamer Paragon in waiting Mr T - secured my room & then went back to look after his new charge Mr Fitch called on me & brought late papers. Charleston ours at last! Good!
