Monday, April 3, 1865. Today about eleven while it rained the bells began to ring, flags were thrown out and everybody seemed wild with joy. We soon learned the great joy - Richmond is really our - Thank God! The war is well nigh over now that the last strong hold has fallen Soon the sun shone out, and Mrs W- came The rest of the day went swiftly & brightly. Slept together and talked long over our troubles. Generous as ever! Dear women!
