Wednesday, April 5, 1865. Breakfasted at Layfayette. Then an amusing ride to Indianapolis. Waiting till ten P.M. for a train. Spent most of the day sleeping. Saw Mrs Dr [Restin] just as I was leaving. Only a moment with her. Completely tired out, but the prize is at the end of the race I could undergo a thousand times as much to see Pa & Manda and accomplish my purposes Life is often what we make it.
