Tuesday, May 2, 1865. This morning when we went in to breakfast we were pleased to find Capt Stevens at our table told us the road was open & we could get off. Were soon seated in the cars & on our way Detained once by the burning of Govt' hay on open car. Arrived at Goldsboro soon after noon. Supt R [Rovad?] gave us his room as there was no hotel. All very kind to us. Libbie felt afraid, but we left ourselves in the Lords hands & slept well.
