Sunday, May 7, 1865. Morning passed rapidly with the girls. After an early dinner they went with me to the Steamer Perit. Had a few pleasant moments with them on the guards and we were off homeward bound. As soon as we got out on the ocean the steamer rolled terribly and by dark for the first time in my life I was terribly seasick. Slepp soon came & the sickness was forgotten.
