Tuesday, July 4, 1865. "For this is the 4th of July The glorious 4th o July sang we this morning, but passed the day very quietly in our own room. Not at all well. Eve - went to see the fireworks in front of the White House. They were grand indeed especially the names of Lincoln & Washington in letters of living light. When all was over to the 7th St Restaurant & [nice] creams. Home wretchedly tired.
