Tuesday, July 18, 1865. I can hardly tell how this day has passed, but I know that it has been inexprssibly sad. I could hardly keep back the tears when I looked at Mattie & thought how long it might be before we met again. Manda came and they all went with us to the train. It was indeed a sad parting, but by the time we passed Baltimore thoughts of home drove away the gloom, & we were more cheerful.
