Saturday, August 19, 1865. A.M. listened long to the children singing, preparing for the Fair. Read several articles in Skirmishes & Sketches & then in a magazine. Evening with Mrs P- walked out into the beautiful woods and felt the blessing of rest, peace & home. In the eve' sat in the parlor with little ones holding my hands while Ella, played, and they sang most beautiful songs. A blessed day.
