Monday, August 21, 1865. Left the Home early & found it hard to kiss the dear children good-by. Rather dull coming home, but Mr S- enlivened it much with his wit & cheerfulness. Pic-nic dinner in a beautiful grove near Salem. Provided by Mr S- & therefore more generous than mine. No Manda here. Ma, Jennie & Charlie doing finely & not suffering from my absence. Long letters from Bro Joe' & Mattie. Eve, writing.
