Thursday, October 12, 1865. Up early and very busy. Mr and Mrs Briggs & Mr Williams here to dinner. Letter from Rev Hall of New York. P.M. Did some sewing but spent most of the time reading Alton L-. A cold rainy day. Hattie & Charlie Stafford here at tea. Eve wrote letters to Tishie & Mrs Darwin. Then read aloud to the family beautiful extracts from Arnolds Poems. How pleasant the contrast between these days and a few weeks since.
