Monday, October 16, 1865. Manda and I at the washing and had it out early. A good letter from Mrs Darwin accompanied by two excellent books for us to read. "Life of Jean Paul Richter" & History of Great Men. P.M went to Mrs Sheans & had my dress fit, did some shopping and got home by dark. All the evening trying to write for Mrs Wittenmyer. Sat up to read a chapter in Jean Paul. Read my Bible lesson
