Tuesday, December 26, 1865. Mother and I washed in the A.M and I spent nearly all the P.M reading in the Cloister & Hearth. Very exciting but not profitable. A letter from my Mattie containing a beautiful Christmas present for me, also had several from Mother. What a luxury to be at home with friends no school, no cares, all rest & peace. We have to work hard to enjoy rest & I have certainly been at it
