e tie up close. In this pickle you may put plums, berries, cabbage, beans, corn, cucumbers, asparagus, by putting them in brine for 3 days. Then boil fresh brine, & only scald the articles, then press out the brine, & put them in the sun to dry. Cover a table with a thick cloth upon which lay the things dry, turning them frequently, & keeping the corners pinned down to prevent them from blowing up over them. Never empty the jar, but add vinegar, & pices from year to year. Lemons sliced into the sugar from time to time are a great improvement This vinegar will answer for walnuts also- Green Tomatoes. Slice 1 peck green tomatoes & sprinkle down with salt; let them stand 2 days. Slice 12 onions, & do them as the tomatoes, One small box mustard, 1/4 lb ground mustard seed, 1 oz cloves, 1 of alspice, 1 of blk pepper. Mix all well together. Then strain the tomatoes from the salt. Put them in the skillet with a layer of onions, & spice between each layer of tomatoes. Cover with strong vinegar, & stew till clear. If you add & boil 1 lb brown sugar with the rest.
