To clean Kettles. A bit of pearlash dissolved in hot water will remove grease from iron cooking vessels, & also remove the taste of onions, or other highly flavoured food. To clean paint Smear a piece of flannel in common whiting mixed to a paste with warm water, Rub the surface to be cleaned quite briskly, & wash off with pure cold water. Grease spots, & other filth will in this way be almost instantly removed, & the paint will retain its beauty & brilliancy unimpaired. To thicken hair Pour boiling water on sage leaves, & let them stand near the fire till they give out their strength. Then strain & apply to the roots of the hair daily. If any oil is needed, equal portions of cocoa nut, & olive oil will be found efficacious. To clean black lace veils. Black lace veils can be recovered by washing them in tea, letting them soak a few moments; then take them out, & as soon as dry enough iron them.
