Saturday May 5th 1917 I gave the house a good going over fixed the neck of a short for Will and did a little washing. Will mowed the yard for the first time. He went to town at 1:15. I was busy till time to fix is some lunch so I went down to 5:15. I went up to Otts awhile and later to Hatties. I came to town with Rob and Cora in time for the 9:30. There was a woman hurt on the street by an Auto jist as the car left. Will let the contract for painting the house today to Will Hildebrand. He got our bank books. We had a good balance. Art Jones paid interest today. Sunday May 6th 1917 I felt very tired but went to church. come home to get the dinner and read most of the afternoon. The folks went to Independence today to see LeGrand. weather cool and cloudy. William is 19 years old today. Monday May 7th 1917 It was affine day. Will helped me wash and was busy about the place all day. I ironed in the afternoon. Will had Charlie Moore trimming trees for him. I went down to Hatties to supper time. Paul Anderson, Agnes & Carl, and Mollie Stevens was there for supper. Paul Helmich walked over to the track with me for the 8:30 car. a fine letter from Lydia. Will is 69 years old today. Tuesday May 8th 1917 I washed some curtains this morning and got them put up again today. Will made some more garden. I was down to the store a couple of times and on the go all day. Was very tired when night came. Read the papers.
