Thursday December 27th 1917 was busy with different things in forenoon. did some sewing. Will brought a letter from Lydia. Hattie went to Red Cross rooms in P M and Rob took me out to Mary Woolfs as they went. I walked back to Folsoms to call. Hattie and I spent the evening at Fannies. Ott up to Cedar Rapids. Home at 9:40. Friday December 28th 1917 It was a cold stormy day. We were about home all day. We were both knitting. I finished a pair of mittens William got back from Ottumwa last night. Left for Allentown today. Saturday December 29th 1917 It was 16 below zero this morning and did not get above zero all day though the sun shone part of the day. We did not leave the house. I was busy with knitting mittens. a letter from Warner McCall. Sunday December 30th 1917 It had snowed and was so cold I did not go to church. Rob took Hattie. I read part of the afternoon Hattie was down to Otts awhile. and read aloud in evening. wrote to Warner. Monday December 31st 1917 Cora was over most of the forenoon. I went to town late in afternoon. I was at Dr Smiths office and he told me they took Mrs Smith to the hospital again. I called on Mrs Ellis. She is not well. Took my last treatment with Dr Herrington and went to the store to come home with Rob at six oclock. We spent the evening at home. The last day of another year. There has been many unexpected things come to pass. Let us hope the war will finished long before the next year has passed.
